Indigenous Engagement Training Options

Self-Paced Online | Virtual | In-Person Options

Indigenous engagement is not a checklist, a department, or a one-hour presentation. It is a responsibility grounded in truth, lived experience, and the courage to confront uncomfortable realities.

This training offers three distinct learning pathways, all rooted in First Nation lived experience, not academic theory or consultant language.

Training Option 1- Self-Paced Online Indigenous Engagement Training

Indigenous Insight's self-paced online Indigenous Engagement Training app is now available. All registrants are screened to ensure the program is an appropriate fit. The process begins with a SHORT ONLINE SURVEY, followed by a cell phone or Zoom video call.

This training delivers perspectives not taught in universities or colleges. The insights come directly from lived First Nation experience, beyond academic frameworks or professional consulting models.

You will gain a clear understanding of:

  • Why there are only THREE categories of Indigenous reconciliation.
  • Why the term “reconciliation” does not apply to Indigenous and non-Indigenous relationship-building processes.
  • Why reconciliation progresses so slowly in Canada, and the real barriers that impede it.
  • The structural and leadership obstacles to reconciliation.
  • The missed leadership opportunities related to reconciliation.
  • The missed leadership identification (not lost) that is essential to any effective Indigenous relations training program.

Additional topics clarified throughout the course include:

“Common Misconceptions,” “Magnitude,” “Red Flag,” and “Reflections” thought boxes woven throughout the training, blending lived experience with examples from across Canada

Colonial terminology, including:

  • Aboriginal, Native, Indigenous, First Nation, Status Indian, Métis, Inuit, band office.
  • Why Indigenous relations and reconciliation departments, agencies, and commissions exist at every level of government and throughout corporate Canada
  • Indigenous life pre-contact, at-contact, and post-contact with European settlers.

The Missing Component in Reconciliation Dialogue Across Canada. Answer: Grasping the Magnitude.

Participants learn how to recognize the true magnitude of colonization and assimilation of Indigenous peoples.

Canada’s colonization history is not examined in isolation. This training presents colonization as an interconnected system, where:

  • The Indian Act + Indian Reserve System + Indian Residential Schools + Christian Churches + RCMP + band administration offices (including development corporations)
= Systemic Racism and Ongoing Colonization.

Unlike other programs, this training directly compares non-Indigenous residential communities with Indian reserve communities. This is where approximately 90% of the magnitude of colonization is routinely missed. Issues such as privilege and systemic racism are brought into the open, without dilution or deflection.

The program also directly addresses sensitive realities, including:

  • The surrender of parental rights
  • Unmarked graves
  • Racism and its ongoing impacts

These topics are confronted because their effects on First Nation communities remain profound and unresolved.

Training Option 3 - Lunch-n-Learn Session

Lunch-n-Learn Session

Virtual & in-Person Options available

Lunch-n-Learn sessions are available. Please see the PDF poster below for details.

These sessions are not designed to turn participants into Indigenous engagement experts. Instead, they are intended to:

  • Strengthen foundational knowledge
  • Open minds to critical thinking
  • Create space for honest dialogue on the most vulnerable and eye-opening topics.

Each session is dialogue-based, not lecture-driven. The realities of reconciliation and the difficult truths of Canada’s colonization history are clarified using real-world examples.

Questions are encouraged, as the most meaningful conversations are often the hardest ones.

Optional Add-On:

Lunch-n-Learn session plus access to an upcoming online Indigenous Engagement course for one designated representative.
